3rd to 7th August 2014

ICIM 3 will take place at »Campus Nord« of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This campus is situated right in the centre of Berlin close to the Museum für Naturkunde and numerous other touristic spots.

How to reach the venue

The venue for ICIM3 is the ‘Campus Nord’ of the Humboldt-University Berlin, which includes both the Institute of Comparative Zoology (Vergleichende Zoologie) (registration, information desk, etc.), the Museum für Naturkunde and associated lecture theatres (see map). Campus Nord is located close to the city centre in the northern part of the ‘Mitte’ district. The nearest main roads are Chausseestraße and Invalidenstraße. The venue is served by the underground line (U-Bahn) number 6, with the stations ‘Naturkundemuseum’ or ‘Oranienburger Tor’, and the urban light railway (S-Bahn) stopping at ‘Hauptbahnhof’ or ‘Friedrichstraße’. Entrances to the university campus are marked on the map with arrowheads.

Public transport connections can be checked on the BVG (transport company) website here: www.bvg.de

From Berlin Tegel airport (TXL)

From Tegel airport the easiest route is probably to take the airport bus TXL directly to either ‘Hauptbahnof’ or ‘Karlplatz’ (see map); a journey of about 20–25 minutes. Alternatively, take bus number 128 from the airport until ‘Kurt-Schumacher-Platz’. Change here to underground line 6 going south – direction ‘Alt Mariendorf’ – and travel eight/nine stops to ‘Naturkundemuseum’ or ‘Oranienburger Tor’. This journey should also take about 25 minutes. Both cost 2.60 € with a zone ‘AB’ single ticket travel card which you can buy at the airport [look for the desk or machines with the black and yellow BVG sign] or directly on the bus. Alternatively, a taxi to the city centre from Tegel should cost about 15–20 €.

From Berlin Schönefeld airport (SFX)

From Schönefeld Airport the easiest route is to walk along the covered concourse to the nearby train station and take the local Airport Express train (‘Regional Express / Regional Bahn’ RE7 or RB14) which leaves every half hour or so. Take this train to the city centre, journey time about 30 minutes, and at the station ‘Friedrichstraße’ you either walk directly to the venue or you change to the underground line 6 going north –direction Alt Tegel – and travel one or two stops to ‘Oranienburger Tor’ or ‘Naturkundemuseum’. This journey costs 3.20 € with a single travel ticket, whereby you need a ticket for zones ABC which you can purchase from the visitor desk or machines in the airport. Alternatively, a taxi to the city centre from Schönefeld should cost about 30–35 €.

From Berlin‘s central station (Hauptbahnhof)

Campus Nord is a short walk (ca. 10–15 minutes) from Berlin central station. You can leave by the northern exit – towards the ‘Europaplatz’ – and turn right onto Invalidenstraße. Follow this main road east, past the ‘Humboldthafen’, over the river and continue along to the museum / university area as indicated on the map. Alternatively, leave by the southern exit towards ‘Washingtonplatz’ and turn left onto Kapelle Ufer. Follow the river Spree until Konrad-Adenauer Straße / Reinhardtstraße and turn left along this road until you reach Karlplatz south of the university campus (see map).

By car

Follow the directions to the ‘Mitte’ District and then to the main station ‘Hauptbahnhof’ and the Invalidenstraße.

Please note that the Invalidenstraße is currently undergoing major long-term road works, and that there is very little parking space either at the university campus or the museum! We strongly discourage people from coming by car and suggest using Berlin’s excellent public transport instead.
